When on Saturday I arranged a visit to 31 Janeiro street with my friend Ivone to visit a store that is going to close soon, I could not imagine the surprise we were both going to have, or better, uncover, in a little corner of our city, the magnificent, beautiful and unique Porto.
I am pretty sure that, just like me, you have passed the entrance of this street a million times. And I am quite sure as well that, as me, you had never gone down the street, called Beco de Passos Manuel. Well, we were both going down the main street when I looked left and said: that looks like an haberdashery store, filled with ribbon spools! We went down the street and I am glad my eyes are still working because I was not mistaken!
And the funniest of things is that after we messed around the store for a while and as we were about to leave, we found out the owners are a couple of friends we haven't seen since college, Manuela e Telmo. Meet Fernando Novais & Cª Lda, that has recently moved from Largo dos Loios to this little corner in Passos Manuel. So our visit went on for a bit more, while we came up to date with the usual, sons, husbands and friends conversation.
The quantity of hidden treasures we found is endless and in true honesty the store is not yet totally arranged, because the move from the previous location has been long. But I can assure everyone that decides to go by there that you will stay with your jaw dropped, as we did, with all the wonders one can find and that you will wish that besides what you can already see, more is yet to be unveiled.
After a few minutes conversation we decided to make a partnership between 512 Ideias and Fernando Novais, because not only do they have hidden treasures all over the place, but also the ribbons are absolutely to die for, in all the colors of the rainbow. So if you happen to go by this store, tell them you have read this post! And spread the word that this little corner is waiting to be discovered. Believe me it will be worth it!
